surpasing Bryant on the all time Div !A wins list. Now We have two class acts (Joe PA) being on top instead of a man who did not coach a game much less a practice the last 4 years of his career. Bryant was a great motivator but not a great coach. His staff did most of the leg work in recruiting and coaching the last half of his career. Thank God We have TWO decent men who at the top and not some wrinkled redneck who didnt even do the job he was paid for. Not to mention some other seedy things he did which in decency for the deceased I wont mention here.

If you think Bobby Bowden is any more decent or any better of a coach than the Bear, you're out of your tree. Bowden is the Jerry Tarkanian of college football...He will accept any kid that can run a 4.2 - 40 and rarely takes into consideration the fact that some of the kids he recruits can't pass college courses.

Remember Randy Moss? Bobby kicked him off the team. What he did wrong, I don't remember, but would be glad to look it up. That's why he played at Marshall. Dishon Platt wanted to attend FSU this year, but the kid didn't keep his grades up and wasn't accepted at FSU. This kid was in the Parade All-American High school at wide receiver. Where you got your bias information is beyong me. The man is a pure Southern Gentleman. Always talks well of others, their program and coach.

MsNole,
I don't have a problem with Bowden.
However, he's not in the same league with the Bear. Getting 31 wins at Samford and playing in the ACC are not impressing me.

It's when people who think they know what he's all about, and makes blatant remarks like above, that gets my blood boiling. Bobby has admired the Bear since he grew up in Alabama. Let's leave it at that.

Let's also not forget that Bobby Bowden kicked Jared Jones off the team and Jones was a highly recruited QB and most likely would have been the starter this year. So contrary to your post, Bobby does have some morales about him.

Nuggets, I don't know who has packed your as_s, with all that crap about the Bear not being a good coach - but somebody has. A leader is someone who inspires others to do something, that he wants done because they want to do it. Bear was a coach in every sense of the word. He didn't have to do everything - that is why they have assistants.
I don't care if the present day Tide ever wins another game, but don't ever let anybody tell you that Paul "Bear" Bryant wasn't THE MAN. He was Patton, John Wayne and Rommell all rolled into one.
(You have nuggets or something else where your brain should be.)

Let's not forget JoePa was originally in this conversation, too. Who was it that beat Penn State one Saturday and led Paterno to make this statement--"I think I'll go home and beat my wife."--at the post-game press conference in response to a question about what he was gonna do to forget about the loss. I forget the team. He pissed off a lot of people with that line. I think it was funny as hell though. Not condoning spousal abuse, but I do love a smartass.
