SEC Places First In Sears Cup Points

Birmingham, AL -- The Southeastern Conference accumulated more points in the 2001-2002 Sears Cup Standings than any other conference in the nation. The 12 SEC teams combined for 7,427 points, which outpaced the Pac-10 with 7,311 points and the Big Ten with 6,803 points.
The SEC had five of the top 12 schools in the final Sears Cup Standings. Florida was the top SEC team with 1,078 points while Georgia was eighth with 865 points, LSU 10th with 842.5 points, South Carolina 11th at 828.5 and Tennessee 12th at 821 points.
The SEC captured six team national championships this season: Alabama in Women's Gymnastics, Auburn in Women's Swimming and Diving, LSU in Women's Indoor and Men's Outdoor Track and Field; South Carolina in Women's Outdoor Track and Field and Tennessee in Men's Indoor Track and Field.
The league also placed as a national runner-up in four other sports: Auburn in Women's Golf, Florida in Women's Tennis; Georgia in Men's Tennis and South Carolina in Baseball.
The SEC had a team in the top five in 15 of the 20 sponsored sports that the SEC participates.
