I have decided that I am going on a quest to visit the South Florida campus. I will be packing up my truck and heading south to visit our bowl opponents campus.

GrayBeard's visit to USF....Day 1

I got up bright and early this morning and got ready to start my trip. Since I live in Central Florida, I knew the direction that I needed to go...SOUTH. So, off I went (no, I did not go to south Orlando for CPE).

and headed south. I followed the turnpike to US 1 were I continued south, all the way to the Southernmost point.



I am here in Key West, and low and behold, I don't see squat about USF....Nothing. So I go out and search the area. I can't even find a USF shirt on anybody...Of course, shirts are hard to come by in Key West. Just a lot of....

and you know what kind of attire is worn in those places....also some of the beaches have even less attire than most would expect.

Up and down Duvall street I go, but No USF to be found. I ask a few locals about the existence of USF, but most respond like this...



I was totally frustrated at this point After 415 miles and hours on the road in Florida. and no USF to be found. To tired to continue on my search tonight, I decided to spend the night in Key West, in the back of my Sonoma of course, and move a little North to the mainland tomorrow to search some more. I know that I must be close. I am in the extreme southern part of Florida, the home to the University of Southern Florida Bulls.

I have searched and searched all of South Florida, but I was unable to find USF. I looked in the Keys, Miami, Naples, West Palm, Boca Raton, Marco Island, Port Charlotte, Fort Meyers, Lake Okochobee area, Ft. Lauderdale, Sanibel, Jupiter, Stuart, Boynton, Arcadia, etc, but no South Florida.

I returned home tonight confused and disappointed. Does USF really exist, or is it some kind of fictional place. All is not lost however, I did get home in time to go with the family on our cruise. We leave out of Tampa tomorrow and head to Cozumel.

Oh Well.

It's pretty bad when the only bad points you can make about USF is its geographical placement in Florida. Congrats, I am sure on 12/23 that will make a difference in helping your Butt Pirates have any type of realistic shot at defeating USF. Good luck.

A Strange Turn of Events

After my week plus journey to visit USF in South Florida and finding nothing, I packed up the family and headed West to Tampa to board a cruise ship for a little vacation. Can you imagine my surprise when I stumbled across information about USF while in Tampa. It turns out that USF is in Tampa, and not in South Florida at all. Well can you believe that? That would be like ECU being named West Carolina. Unbelievable!

To top it all off, this morning, just prior to disembarking the ship, I was seated next to (same table) a USF freshman marching band dude. He proceeded to introduce my kids to almost every cuss word in the book. You can't blame him though, it was at 6:45 and I think he was either massively hung over or still drunk. Silly bulls can't handle their liquor. I told him to have a nice trip to Birmingham and I hoped that his bulls took a nasty beating.
