RECAP

Comebacks are becoming old hat for Vanderbilt.

The Commodores came off the deck three times, including once in
overtime, and defeated Southeastern Conference foe Mississippi,
37-34, handing coach David Cutcliffe the first loss of his
tenure.

Vanderbilt (2-1, 1-0 SEC) also snapped a six-game losing streak
in the series and won for only the third time in 21 games at
Oxford.

Last week, the Commodores had their biggest comeback ever,
erasing a 25-point deficit for a 34-31 win over Northern
Illinois. Against Ole Miss, they came back from deficits of 14,
seven and three points before winning on their first possession
of overtime.

Greg Zolman threw a six-yard touchdown pass to tight end Elliott
Carson to cap Vanderbilt's six-play overtime possession. Ole
Miss (2-1) was held to just eight yards on its possession before
Les Binkley kicked a 34-yard field goal.

Cutcliffe fell to 3-1 as Rebels coach. He guided the team to an
Independence Bowl win over Texas Tech last season and victories
over Memphis and Arkansas State to open the 1999 campaign.

Ole Miss led 14-0 midway through the second quarter, but Zolman
had a pair of short touchdown runs to tie the game at 17-17 with
three minutes left in the third.

After the Commodores briefly grabbed a 24-17 advantage,
Mississippi again took control with a 40-yard connection between
Romaro Miller and a 46-yard run by Deuce McAllister.

But Vanderbilt again responded, as Zolman hooked up with running
back Todd Yoder from three yards with 49 seconds left in
regulation to tie it.

Zolman completed 22-of-38 passes for 344 yards with two
touchdowns and two interceptions. Tavarus Hogans totaled 178
yards on eight catches for Vanderbilt.

McAllister and Joe Gunn combined for 178 yards on 27 rushes and
a pair of scores for the Rebels. Miller was 17-of-21 for 245
yards and two TDs.
