I pick San Jose State and Kent State to play one another for the 1-AA national title.
No, seriously, I think all this talk about enforcing attendance rules is just that . . . talk. The NCAA is full of it. No one is dropping to 1-AA, or the Champion Division, or whatever the hell they want to call it.

Don't worry about Rice. They have enough games scheduled where fans coming to see their opponents will keep them afloat. Besides we need their flagship baseball program.

Baseball season attendance: 107474
Football season attendance: 50360
Not only did our revenue sport beat our revenue sink in attendance last year, it doubled it up.
Flagship.

This is like the mythical Big East split....a misconception that will not go away. What is MORE likely is that 1A and 1AA will be merged into one division. That actually was on the last NCAA agenda, unlike the attendance issue.
How is the Big East split mythical when our former AD said he discussed it with Big East ADs 3 years ago and it's still an ongoing thing?

Hey, some people prefer being #2 as opposed to #1.
Oh wait, never mind. That's going #2. Carry on.

this is crazy, the tarps alone must account for a few thousand seats per game. Throw in some Whatta-burger coupons and they are good as gold.

Rice is in absolutely no danger of being dropped to div IAA. It's a distinct possibity we can have our 75,000 required for the season by mid-September (if UH fans actually exist and decide to show up to the 1st game).
Wow. How stupid are you. Your school has been warned about it's IA status because of attendance, yet you are talking attendance smack about Houston. Good thing US News doesn't know about you, or Rice may have been classified Tier 4.

Honestly if you can't average 15k I think you need to be demoted IMO.
We averaged about that many in the mid 1960's playing Catawba and Presbyterian.

He said there is no chance we will be dropped, and he is right. Check back with us at the end of September and you will see. We had a bad year last year, for multiple reasons. I doubt that happens again, but it sure won't happen two years in a row.
As for UH, with their alumni base and student body, they should be averaging 50K. If they got the same percentage of their alumni/students as we do, they would need to expand their stadium, not shrink it.

I never said that you would, but just getting warned is humiliating enough. Don't go talking smack about someone else's attendance when you are on the warning list.
BTW - Number of alumni is a poor excuse. The majority of fans at an Alabama game never even went to college, much less to Bama.

The NCAA has been writting letters to teams with sub-par attendance for the past ten years, but the politically correct clowns that head the board never really enforce the rule. If that were the case, the likes Buffalo and Eastern Michigan would have been out of Division 1-A a long time ago. This is just a scare tactic used to try and 'strike fear' into these schools to try and increase attendance, but there are a plethora of ways around the rule. SMU once held the school cafeteria dinner line through the turnstiles of their stadium to get better numbers (according to a poster on here), and UAB gave out free tickets in Birmingham's newspaper in 2003.

The majority of fans at an Alabama game never even went to Jr High. Rice doesn't attract that crowd nearly as much. Good for you Rice!

MAC attendance last year had several odd quirks-
Tornado warning for Oxford, OH just before kickoff of Miami-BGSU game.
I think most fans decided to take shelter. Game time was delayed 3 hours and stated at like 10pm on a school nite.
Akron vs Kent State was at 10am kickoff for TV during a blizzard in sub zero wind chill.
Having a game opposite monday nite football between Ohio and Miami.

Doesn't the same thing go with dishing out weak academic smack when you're on a warning list as well?
