I'm an educated upper-class white guy. My wife and I earn a nice income. I'm 100% great with the government being 'out of my life'.

If I was an innercity, uneducated person with little prospects/hope raised in crap schools nobody wanted to be a teacher in, maybe a one parent home with no father figure, (as an example) -I would be 100% for the government in my life, helping me any way they can.

Lets get something correct.....

you would never be driving (or walking) around the middle of a intercity. So your conjecture of that is feed to you by whatever you see by the media.

The first thing you would do if you found yourself in a spot that looked black, poor, white, poor, brown, poor.....

lock your f'ing door and hope like hell you don't hit any red lights. And if you were packing, "honey get that 38 out and put it with in reach".

Coming from a life long democrat that grew up poor and had the help of a welfare program a couple times in my early life. I can safely say the democrat party, today and for the last 18 or so years....are not for those people you describe. And to be honest neither is the republicans.

But we do have a President (with all of his warts) that is trying to do just as you view those poor people. He wants them to get jobs. He wants companies to create jobs in those areas. He wants The fathers to help raise their kids and be a father. And he wants mothers to do the same. And if you need help, he wants you to get it. But also go out and help yourself.

Use welfare to help you...when you need it. Not as a tool so you don't have to go out and support yourself like the democrats have done over the last 18 or so years. For a lot of people that's getting housing asst. food asst and a check. Going to work would be a pay cut. That's the biggest problem. Yes I know people (white, brown and black) just like that.

Many people in the poorest parts of a city goes to work everyday and support their families. Those with a strong mother & father....

hates the deadbeats as much as you think everyone other than a democrat does. They hate having to send their child to a school where 25% makes it impossible to get a good education. They hate sending their child to the store because they might get robbed. They hate everything about those that are trying to milk the system.

Why? Because it make them be seen in the same light as those bums that just don't want to work. Don't want to go to school. Dont want to live by laws they have to.

That democrat party (or at least today) they still support because they believe what the media is selling them...

is not trying to build jobs. They are not trying to make the streets safer. They are not trying to make their life better. Those days are gone for democrats ...long gone
