My guess is that the staff wants the players to actually learn how to play defense without going zone. If you can play man it is a far better route to take than bailing out to zone. I am not 100 % against some zone but it makes for some lazy play and letting guys off the hook on one end of the court. It looks like the top 4 players are pretty solid athletes and should be able to handle a tough man to man defense. I am not sold on Richmond at this point but maybe he comes around as he gets more time on the court. None of these players have ever played a tough man defense at the college level but I think they can and should get better. It will make or break the season-gotta get some stops at some point. They all go under the pick and at this level that can't happen or you are gonna get killed. Not sure what they are teaching but they can hedge or switch with everybody except Bryan who has zero chance at guarding anybody with the ball and a dribble. Let it play out and see if they get better.
