In this case, the nation isn't the USA, but really just white people, as defined by persons who don't accept the equality of persons of color.

Trumpers could care less about immigration from Ireland. And they want to help any overwhelmingly white foreign power (to the detriment of the USA) that is anti human rights.

There are two kinds of nationalism. One form says "we are all Americans and all of us should be protected from foreign threats". The second is "Only some types of Americans are real Americans, and we should work to preserve those types of Americans over others".

I see Trumpism as door number 2
