RE: *** Game Thread: Old Dominion @ Marshall ***

The way I see it, if ODU walks out of Huntington with a loss on Saturday, not only are you 2 games back in the standings to 2 teams, but you have already lost to tiebreak against both, so you'd be effectively 3 games back - and FAU and Marshall still have to play each other meaning one of them is guaranteed another win. In essence, you'd be 3 games back with "5" to play (for the Marshall/FAU winner). With a loss on Saturday, ODU's chances at a division championship this year would be practically zero.
So, do the borderline or questionable players suit up to play and try to stay relevant for a title hunt, or do the borderline players get one more week to make a run for bowl eligibility? If the kitchen sink isn't thrown this Saturday, then ODU would seem to be settling for bowl eligibility.
Just an observation -
Can't speak for the coaching staff, but it would take an absurdly optimistic ODU fan to being thinking in terms of winning the east at this point. Numerically possible? Of course. Realistically conceivable? No.
I'm not saying that we can't win this weekend. The talent is there. But I am saying that it would require a very different ODU team to suddenly emerge in order for us to be back in any conversation for winning the division.
My guess is that any borderline players will not play on Saturday.
