UConn wasn't chosen because of their football program, plain and simple. Too many ACC football schools did not want another weak Northeast program dragging down the conference. I'm sure the Tobacco Four didn't want to continue move the footprint away from NC, either.

In all honesty, they (ACC) weren't looking at anyone else at that point. It was UConn or Louisville. Cincinnati wasn't being seriously considered, and neither was USF. Everyone else was still in the process of being called up from C-USA at that point. Louisville just had the stronger football program.

Just curious, why wasn't cincy looked at?

Because ESPN didn't want them.

It's my understanding that Cincinnati finished second in voting but only Louisville could be agreed upon unanimously. UCONN never even made it to a vote.
