Perhaps but the most devastating once in history seem to have come in the last 10 years.

So while there may be fewer, they seem to be getting more damaging.

They are causing more damage, that much is undeniable. The reason though is because there is a lot more development in hurricane prone areas today than there was decades ago. Lavish homes and high end attractions cost a lot more than utilitarian summer vacation homes that used to dominate coast lines.

Harvey is an anomaly and Katrinas devastation was largely due to failure of a manmade structure protecting an area humans realistically shouldn't have built a city in anyway.
