As for recruiting, it's seems unlikely that we'd steal anyone even if we win. The gap between the two programs is just so massive that even a USM win wouldn't sway anyone from choosing to play in CUSA over the SEC.

Plenty of upside to us playing these games though. We're getting a hefty payday for the 2019 game and playing State increases our exposure/visibility throughout Mississippi. People will be forced to give a damn about Southern Miss for a few weeks over the next several years. That's a win.

Win just 1 game and we can talk infinite amounts of **** to these people. A W vs State would also help our reputation/perception tremendously across the state. Right now, we're on par with Delta State when you get outside the Pine Belt.

And FWIW, I'd have to say Clarksdale is the armpit of Mississippi, not Starkvegas. They're in the running though.
