I am not going out on the limb like CA by say our Aggies will sweep any team is the WAC. But I do think Jans will prove in time to be a better tactical head coach than Weir. I think NMSU has good talent this year; maybe better than last season. However this team is almost completely new. Chemistry and roles have not been defined yet. I'm not sure this team can shoot from behind the arc as well as a season ago. So, Jans' team may not operate the same way as Weir's team in order to win games. I doubt this season team will rack up 28 wins or ride a 20 game winning streak like a season ago.
I thought Weir would have proved to be a very good Aggie coach, so I will not down play his potential. I felt Weir was a better motivator than Menzies. However, the one thing we need to realize is Weir's successful first season was accomplished with mostly Menzies' recruits. Weir still needed to prove he could sustain a winning program with solely his own recruiting. So, again this season, Jans will be helped by Menzies recruits (Sidy Ndir, Eli Chuha, and Johnathon Wilkins)... and a few by Weir's as well (AJ Harris, Jemerrio Jones, and Marlon Jones). It will take three or four seasons to find out if Jans can recruit at a level to consistently win WAC tournament Championships.
