Northern Colorado could fit in that group as Denver's travel paetner. They would stabilize the conference with six members that would not be flight risk.

For Northern Colorado who list Denver as it's rival the Summit makes sense. If the Summit payed their exit fees why stay in the Big Sky.

Why is the Big Sky a better option?

2nd best Summit option would be Duluth and St Cloud without football and Northern Colorado.

Colorado is increasingly full of California expatriates, so a more western focused league is better for Colorado schools, rather than a Midwest or Plains one. U of Colorado made their switch and No Colo wants and needs to remain western oriented. There are plains people have migrated to Colorado over the years, but they are being outnumbered now and the state is more resembling California than Nebraska and Kansas now.
