The WAC expects to eventually lose UMKC, that is why they are working on a couple SoCal schools to move up.

I think in the long run the WAC will be better off without Chicago State and UMKC. Having a smaller geographic footprint will make it easier to attract one or two more D-II move-ups to follow in the footsteps of Grand Canyon and Cal Baptist, or possibly add current D-I schools like Sac State or Portland State if they should eventually choose to drop football.

I think its a losing battle. They need to merge with the Summit.

Summit has no need to do so

The Summit has been shedding teams too. And some of the WAC schools are better matches than potential Summit additions. And the WAC has a better name.

Summit has the 4 Dakota's, Omaha, and Denver as a solid core. Oral Roberts isn't going anywhere so that's the 7 they need for an auto bid.
