RE: OT: Officially The Official Soccer Thread
I don't know if anyone noticed, but FIFA switched the draw system for the World Cup this year. Teams are now entirely seeded by the screwy FIFA ranking system (You know the one that rewards teams for winning qualifiers or tournament matches, but punishes for winning friendlies.) Previous system seeded the top 7 teams plus the host, and placed the rest in pots by confederation

If the US qualifies, we will in all likelihood be in Pot 3, however, there is still a chance we can rise to Pot 2. We had a zero percent chance of rising to pot 2 until Ashley Williams forgot how to defend for the briefest of moments and cost Wales a World Cup spot. Now we have a 3-4 percent chance.

Here are the Scenarios:

USA Must beat Trinidad today. (Draw does not work)
Sweeden has to lose to the Netherlands today by less than 6 goals. (Netherlands 1-0 up currently)
Greece has to beat Gibralter today (1-0 up currently)

Either Argentina or Chile must lose today and drop out of an automatic WC slot, at the expense of Paraguay who must win and get in without using the playoff

Next Month:

Sweeden must win its playoff to make the World Cup
Greece must win its playoff to make the World Cup
Ireland must win its playoff to make the World Cup

New Zealand must beat out CONEMBOL's 5th place side in the Playoff and make the World cup.
