Make no mistake, on message boards we love to discuss opinions. But if the P5 conferences were ever to split away from the NCAA the Big East would be on the outside looking in with the rest of the kids at the table.

Again, I think the Big East is great. 5 million to not be playing basketball is absolutely amazing and their success speaks for itself. That success is what I personally think determines power vs non power conference.

But the Big East is not one of the P5.

No one is saying they are one of the P5, but you clearly have a bias. The BE makes more than any G5 conferences and they don't play FB. They make the same amount of TV money for basketball as the ACC. Thats being high resource.

Tiny Providence College makes as much money if not more from it's basketball program than mighty USC.

That's because Providence College is with a group of schools who have chosen to focus their resources on that alone. And I have not one time said that they did not. I have on multiple times praised the Big East for being good at what they do.

But that does not omit the fact that once again, mid major is an artificial term that differs from person to person. You and I could dispute all day what makes a conference a power conference in basketball. We can't dispute that USC dwarfs Providence in overall conference revenue from sports and so does every single Pac-12 member. That's why Oregon State is a power conference team and Providence is not.

I'm not arguing that the Big East is not good or better than the AAC. I'm arguing that you guys have made an artificial title that can be changed given the success or slight change in revenue.

What if Fox decides they don't want to pay the Big East so much next time? They would still be one of the strongest basketball conferences because they share a long history of success. But again the reality is that schools like USC make 30+ million for two sports and Providence is making 5 for one.

So, no you won't convince me that they are a power conference. They are a tall midget when it comes to revenue.

Yeah and Fox and ESPN can say your games start too late so we will pay you less. I know I wont convince you but that doesn't mean the people who matter share your delusional idea that FB money equates power conference in BBall. The idea that the SEC is a power basketball conference because they are good at football and the Big East isn't because they don't play football is laughable.

The Pac-12 went what a decade between final four teams? The Big East has 3 or 4 appearances in that time. Look at what all of that football money did for the Pac-12 They clearly are a power conference in basketball! hahaha

Oh so now power conference is defined by final fours? See how you can keep changing what power conference means? One minute your criteria is resources and the next it's success.
