I've heard some ridiculous nicknames - I've heard UC-Irvine called "UCI," "Irvine," and even "University of Chinese and Indians" (get it, UCI?). But I've never heard anyone here say "Cal-Davis" or "Cal-Irvine" or "Cal-Los Angeles," or "Cal-(anything)" other than "Cal-Berkley." And usually Berkley is just "Cal" (although here in San Diego it's also acceptable to call it "those crazy liberals" or any number of curse words).
