Yeah, but that's a year at a JuCo with presumably even less fan support, and then uncertainty thereafter. Could also be that he got the sense he wouldn't be a star here (especially because the "new" coach is actually an old coach and so there wouldn't be a complete re-evaluation), so why not give it a shot elsewhere.

I'm sure a top JuCo is relatively close to Rice in terms of atmosphere. I'd hope our facilities are much nicer but the difference between several quiet Rice fans and several JuCo fans is pretty indistinguishable. Especially when the year after he could be playing in front of 6k plus loud fans every night if he goes anywhere decent.

He started all of the games he was healthy as a freshman, not sure what more he would want towards being a "star"?
