Not sure I agree. Bloomgren wasn't going to take the job mid-season and I don't know how 1-2 months of uncertainty regarding the head coach spot would have helped recruiting. Don't get me wrong, I wish Bailiff had been let go mid-season. But I just don't see how that would have made recruiting significantly better or worse.

There are a still a few months in the recruiting calendar and less than half of Rice's 2018 class will be filled after today. We really don't know enough to judge anything or make any assumptions. Moreover, few of the freshman will have a meaningful impact on the 2018 results.

Lipstick on a pig. The entire football situation is an unmitigated disaster. There is no coaching staff, very few individuals have signed, and all of the higher rated "commitments" have chosen to go in another direction. Virtually all of the players available in February will be the "leftovers" -- those who have marginal ability, those who are waiting/hoping for a P5 offer, or those whose academic issues are precluding their being signed. None of those scenarios is advantageous to Rice.
