RE: mwc to consider cutting the cord
A real world, albeit small, example of this "cord cutting" was when BYU turned ESPNU down for the 2015 Fresno St. and 2016 UMass home games. Instead of taking the $800K for the 10pm ET ESPNU broadcasts, BYU opted to kickoff at 1:30 local time and broadcast the game on BYUTV.

I have no idea whether it made sense financially on a one-off basis (ie, whether BYU recouped $800K from the difference in ticket sales for a 1:30pm v. 8:30pm kickoff in November), but I do know that most BYU fans were immensely grateful for the earlier daytime kickoffs in November and BYU has gained a ton of goodwill with season ticket holders and East Coast alumni and fans from these decisions.
