Catchy article title, but not necessarily the end conclusion. And the writer is not an economist and his logic is being questioned (fairly) in the comments section.

If anyone was losing money in the MLS, owners wouldn't be scrambling to get a piece of the action. The author compares MLS to European leagues and simply uses that comparison to trash the league. The problem with that approach is if you look at the top professional sports leagues in Europe, soccer rules the roost. The most profitable non-soccer league in Europe is the Top 14 rugby league in France. I hadn't heard of it until I looked it up just now. It is the 10th biggest pro sports league, with the 9 ahead of it all soccer leagues Unlike in Europe, soccer has serious competition here in the states, including four of the top five grossing professional sports leagues in the world. That doesn't consider collegiate athletics, either.

The conclusion I get from this article is the MLS is still profitable, but not as profitable as the premier league. OK.
