I see it as a threat to ESPN saying if you don't do something we are going to have to make a decision as we can't maintain this spending.

But in some ways it also seems like something a fan would say after watching the NBE teams be successful while they struggle in the AAC completely overlooking the fact that plenty of other schools are successful in the AAC.

It could just be a desperate attempt to throw themselves at the p-5. Kinda like the chubby girl in the group at the bar who isn't getting any looks at 10PM saying she is going home in the hopes someone asks her to stay.

I'm sure the AAC appreciates it. Now only did you try to leave for the Big 12 now you are trying to leave for the NBE.

If UCONN was doing this as you say as a desperate attempt to throw themselves at a P5...I think the opposite will happen. I watched how Rutgers, TCU, Utah and Louisville moved up and it was very quietly. Maybe Rutgers is a bad example but Utah, TCU and Louisville all had spectacular football seasons for a good length of time before they got snatched up. If Uconn had a 5 year run like the last 5 years of those 3 leading up to the day they were invited, they'd be invited too probably.

Cheers!
UConn fans have a very different outlook on this for some reason. I don't know if you ever read their board but it is entertaining and sad at the same time. They seem to feel like victims not realizing that they control thier own destiny 100%.

I tend to agree with you that this likely won't end up working as far as enticing the ACC or B1G to add them.
