Because ESPN needed enough brands to drive profits out of the conference, and Memphis didn't cut it.

It's won their only broadcast sports national championships and anchored the TV deal, though. I mean, if anything, UConn should be annoyed that the "football schools" in the conference haven't done more on their end.

Well when we have dead weight like you dragging us down Group A school

Duke doesn't seem to keep Clemson or Florida State from being good at the stuff they're supposed to be good at. Pick something and be good at it.
