With that tiny budget and the increase in schollys to 85, they have to match the scholarships with their women's sports.... Plus COA... And travel would increase immensely...they won't be bussing to txst.

I am guessing that a full scholarship is about $20,000 to $25,000 per year at UWF.

23 more scholarships would run about $600,000 per year.

At the moment, UWF offers one more sport for women. I guess that UWF would add beach volleyball and women's golf to reach 23 more scholarships. That is where the additional travel cost occurs. Football teams do not travel as much as the other sports.

A football team is away from campus maybe 10 days during the season. So we essentially agree but coming at it from two different directions.

My basic point was that UWF fits the conference make up plus it is geographically beneficial to a majority of the current membership.

The Gulf Coast conference is within the footprint of the Sun Belt. Therefore, travel cost would on the surface be equitable for UWF. However, there is no travel cost between Pensacola and Mobile; minimal travel cost to Troy, ULL and ULM which are closer to Pensacola in time and mileage than Delta State and North Alabama. This should reduce the travel cost against the $600,000 additional scholarship cost by about $200,000.

Example: A USA tennis team road trip cost to UWF is zero compared to having to go to FAU, FIU, App State, Coastal.

The same for Troy.

It is an easy one night over stay trip for ULL, ULM, Ark State, and Georgia State. UTA would have no problem because of direct flights to Pensacola due to NAS Pensacola and nearby Eglin AFB.

Myrtle Beach is like Mobile, dead end air travel city with limited flight opportunities throughout the year. Therefore, it is easier for App State teams to get into the area and play a three game swing through UWF, USA and Troy, then catch a flight out of Pensacola that puts them back in Boone by 9:00 PM Sunday.

ULL and ULM volleyball would bus to Troy, play match next day then over to Pensacola that night, play match next day, spend the night, 50 min drive to Mobile, have a short practice then match against USA. Then 4 hrs bus drive home.

Arkansas State is 6.5 hrs drive.

Coastal Carolina is about a 10 hr drive from Pensacola but it is only a three hour flight through Atlanta.


At any rate, UWF is in a desirable location that is easily accessible to most of the members of the conference.

So where is the statement where UWF wants to go FBS?

Where is even ONE UWF poster or alumnus stating that yep Ole FJ is correct?
