For what?

Florida Gulf Coast needs more closer schools. One half of their conference rivals are over 800 miles away.
I only see one possibility out of both conferences... West Florida.

That being said, the ASUN is in a good position as we stand. Solid schools overall with potential to get better. There is no rush to expand and the ASUN can afford to be a little picky.

With what was going to be the UAC deal basically dead, if expansion is on the agenda, the way Gumbart sounds in interviews, he really wants the ASUN to have FCS football, and the only way to do that is to expand with football playing schools.

So the commissioner and probably people on the "expansion committee" already know who the football schools are that are interested in moving to the ASUN. The hold back other than covid, at the moment is do they want to play in the Big South until UNA is done with the transition? Also, you have to wonder, if any other schools in the conference presently, may be willing to start programs if the ASUN was to sponsor it.

My reasoning behind this is, both FGCU and UNF have done studies on starting programs, to my knowledge, the actual studies suggest that they should. But they both say its "down the road". FGCU will have to have a stadium, UNF has a stadium, but will need to be updated.

Stetson may be in the conversation if there are other Florida schools, in conference to play, instead of traveling across the nation for conference games. That may be even more so now that covid has happened.

There is no waiting, or transition period for schools that simply start a program. So if this was the scenario, the ASUN could potentially have

UNA, KSU, West Florida, UNF, FGCU, Stetson, ???, ???

An 8 school football conference with 12 all sports.

Why would FGCU and UNF rush to add football? They already have a spot in the BSC if they wanted to start football.
