Read the quotes from FGCU in that article. So much of it applies today in terms to NJIT abruptly exiting. For example: Rumors were circulating over the last week or two. That was very disappointing as well. Something like this you would assume would start through our commissioner and the presidents' council. It's not like we're in competitive bidding. It would have allowed our institutions to talk to them and say, 'Maybe can you just wait a year?' Just like the likes of Mercer and ETSU did.

Now FGCU has got to be boiling over. Not only because of NJIT, but because they realize that Bellarmine is likely following the NKU script. You can feel FGCU's passion to make the ASUN great in those quotes. They're trying their best and they keep taking a beating as team after team leaves. People can only take so many hits before they say enough is enough. FGCU has a lot to offer, and I wouldn't be surprised if they're marketing themselves to the Big South and SoCon.

Nobody expected NJIT to stay if given the opportunity to join ANY other conference more regional to them.... nobody, including FGCU is upset about it or didn't see it coming. And I dont believe for a minute that it took the commissioner by surprise either, his whole twitter argument was not saying NJIT was not leaving the ASUN, it was basically saying the Atlantic Sun is not the name of the conference anymore.... he was playing around with whomever because he cant spill the beans until NJIT and NEC does.

As for Bellarmine, it is my understanding that it was a unanimous vote to invite them. That means ALL schools voted yes including FGCU. Would we be a little more upset with them leaving? Sure.
