Troy's Valcin returns

TROY – Nearly a year after a horrific injury, Troy safety Barry Valcin was on the field and going full-speed in the Trojans first preseason practice Thursday.

Valcin was supposed to be the veteran leader of the defense last year, but suffered a broken fibula and dislocated ankle on his right leg just two days before the season opener.

He was taking part in an onside kick drill. With no one around him, he jumped up to catch a kick and landed wrong, messing up his leg and derailing his season.

“I remember going up, coming down and a big shock went through my whole leg,” Valcin said. “I remember looking down and seeing my ankle to the right with my knee straight, and I remember being at the hospital with them putting it in place.”
