They want to, and need to. But doubling the athletic budget overnight is a problem.

There is also a contingent of folks that don't want to see them move at all for other reasons.


Some of those people have blinders on. Staying D2 would not help with the sports costs one bit.

Those people are not concerned with athletics at all, much less what is good for them or not.


Going to D1 means that you can be closer in academics with your peers or who you look up to. Being at a lower level, you do not get noticed. Moving up to get your sports team on TV can help bring new students in. Some of these D2 schools are mainly the lower end of the FBS schools who can compete. The issue is trying to save money to get a profit from the sports. A-Sun, Big South and other FCS conferences should look at D2 more. Several D2 schools have better facilities than several D1 schools. West Florida have been doing a lot of upgrading which some of the drawings show are much better than severl of the schools in the Sun Belt Conference.
