Do not take it personally, either for yourself or your son.
There are always those that expect to get the 5- and 4-stars, many, if not most, of whom could never qualify to even apply to Rice. We have had very successful teams with no high school 4- or 5-star recruits, but those with the intelligence, determination, and diligence to become winners. Even those that did not pan out but stayed the course, have had successful careers in the 50 years after graduating with a Rice degree. High school recruiting rankings are an absolutely inexact science, favoring the youngsters who are older and from high profile high schools. Your son should take it as a personal challenge to prove the rankers wrong.
