I read the original trilogy about 14 years ago. Someone who has read the books has to know that he originally planned two trilogies: the original one, and then one about 15 or so years later. He was going to cover intermediate events in prologues and flashbacks in the second trilogy, but they became too cumbersome to handle that way, so he was "forced" to write AFFC and a large portion of ADwD. He has flat out stated he had no interest in writing those and called the chore a "*****". It was intended to setup his finale trilogy, of which WoW is book #1. What that means is that he had a lot of story ideas that he hasn't yet covered. And what it means for the show is that they aren't going to do them either. The show can possibly still work, but only if the narrative substituted is as strong, if less detailed. That's my concern. I'll still watch the show, but I may often grit my teeth at the dropoff in quality.
