I wouldn't change the once-weekly weigh-ins. More frequent ones might lead to more zero-difference readings, or ones that are more dependent on small variations in scale response rather than actual weight loss.

The season was long ... but that does motivate us to continue to try to lose weight, which is a good thing.

I don't know what you mean by "lowering the number of formats" ... but I thought the way you set it up the competition and standings (taking into account wins/losses/forfeits/points/% weightloss, etc.) was pretty darned good.
