It certainly is not as dead as some people make it seem on here. You would think its rare for someone to stand out of their seat if you read this board.
You said you started attending during the 5-25 season. Your frame of reference is not the same as mine, and from mine, this is the deadest The Ted has ever been.

No, i said I got season tickets starting that year. Ive been going to games since the mid 80s.

I started going in '04 (denim vest guy riling up a packed student section full of pre-gamed greek life that arrived 1 hour before tip-off and f'em chants resounding throughout campus for 3 years) so my frame of reference says that these current crowds suck, with the exception of the NIT run. I'm old enough to remember hearing chants not only inside the Ted, but outside, both before and after the games. Not sure what changed... probably a variety reasons including the product on the court, smart phones, a generation full of beta pu$$ies, doing away with free beer in the BBR, doing away with pre-game concerts and BBQs outside, doing away with what was awesome halftime entertainment and contests, Dr. Runte leaving and no longer having an involved administration that engages with the students, etc. This is definitely the deadest it has been and it started going down well before JJ arrived, so no, I do not place the full blame on him. Even the '10 and '11 crowds, which witnessed probably the two best teams ever to put on the uniform, were far inferior to the '04, '05, 'and '06 crowds.

You mentioned three important aspects that are no longer happening. A couple of popular students to act as cheerleaders (Jean Vest guy), Greek life lending its support, engaged administration that brings and/or supports the fun. VCU embraces, even encourages the ugly, crass antics of its fan base. It was even embodied for a time by their band leader (who was basically the head cheerleader). That excitement is contagious. ODU would have shut that stuff down ASAP. We like to think of ourselves as more sophisticated and classy than the VCU crowd, and we probably are, but ask yourself which place has the better college hoops atmosphere right now. We used to be equal and sometimes better.
