Here's our athletic department audited financial reports for the last three years. I understand the frustration with the basketball performance the last few years but not the ready jump off the cliff mentality. A few years ago we were ready to fire Bobby and were singing JJ praises. Money's tight but things are still happening. Practice facility was built, LR Hill complex expanded, stadium redo is moving albeit at a snails pace. I think some of you need to step back and look at the bigger picture. If JJ starts getting us to the NCAA tourney he'll get paid more, if he doesn't he'll get fired. It'll happen, not at the pace some prefer but if those people had their way Bobby would have been fired a few years ago. We need to cut costs, not programs. We could get close to two million more dollars a year by selling out to a body bag game against the SEC every year but we don't. We could slash programs down to the minimum allowed and save probably millions. If you suggest doing these things and putting that money into basketball, that is in my opinion the definition of building a house of cards.

edit:

And if anyone thinks that dropping back down to FCS and rejoining the CAA is the best solution then I suggest googling JMU's athletic financial reports

The problem is not with what JJ is getting paid. He doesn't deserve a penny more than he is earning, based on performance so far. The issue is that we hired a coach at that pay scale to begin with.

So how much should we have been offering and what could we have gotten for that?

If we paid $1M, it would bring into play a lot of names of successful mid-major coaches that are not going to move at our rate.

Dan Muller - Illinois State - $400k
Eric Musselman - Nevada - $400k
Kermit Davis - MTSU - $579k
Randy Bennett - St. Mary's - $575k
Paul Weir- New Mexico State - $250k
John Becker - Vermont - $275k
Tim Cluess - Iona - $485k

With this group's current state of mind, Randy Bennett would not be acceptable. Which is hilarious.
