The JT3 thing was targeted speculation. The timing, the circumstances, and the many ties between Thompson and Huge. I think she had a good idea of his interest well before Shaver was let go. She bided her time and waited for the slightest opportunity to make it happen. In the hiring process, Thompson, for whatever reason, saw what he was up against and got cold feet. Perhaps he was more content with the zero pressure role of working with USA Basketball that he ultimately settled on.
I have no proof, but I 100% believe this or something similar to be the case. I think after the rejection, Huge was left flat footed in the coaching search. I know for a fact Fischer wasn't her top choice, no matter what her press release said.
