Poor Deep Creek, growing up DC was the team to beat around here in the Southeastern District so many great college players and some NFL guys from there. Chesapeake did a number on them when they remapped the school zone.

It all depends on when someone grew up around the south side. Before Deep Creek was really good Wilson was the power house. Then it was a combination of both Wilson and Great Bridge during the Ralph Gahagan and Darnell Moore era at Wilson (mid 60's - 70's). About the time those two started becoming less dominant (when Darnell Moore left for Norfolk State) Norcom and Deep Creek started improving and became the teams to beat in Portsmouth and Chesapeake (roughly speaking). Wilson was rezoned to the new high school location a few years later (formerly Manor High) and has never been anywhere near as strong since. I believe that Great Bridge was similarly affected by new schools and rezoning as they too have never been as good.
