Newbie here... One of the faculty when I was in school sits on Senate. I was encouraged to focus on the leadership inability of Watts instead of just focusing on football. Some faculty don't always subscribe to athletics, and are more focused on academics. If you focus on the mistrust that Watts has put forth at the university, your email may have a little more sway.

Also, it's obvious that Watts is rattled by the emails coming in, since he sent out the email to the students about the "rumors" of dismantling the undergrad program.
