One of my former professors is on faculty senate, and before the announcement was officially made, she retweeted John Archibald: "Silence out of UAB as a whole is starting to piss me off." She also commented "I am a Senator, and I don't even know anything."

I asked if she was faculty Senate to clarify and then had this exchange with her over PM:

Prof: "We as the senate asked about football and got no answers so we got the news just like anyone else. My email has been going bonkers with donors and alumni writing. All I can say (because it's all I know) is that the senate will meet soon. We are a diverse faculty population so I've no idea really what consensus will be.
Personally, I do not know any faculty or administrators who feel this is a good move.
Just fyi."

Me: "Great. I am planning on emailing faculty senate members as well today. This decision worries me not only as a fan of athletics but also as an alum who wants to see my alma mater continue to thrive. Thanks for the message!"

Prof: "I understand. I'm a lifelong fan as well as alumni. This is so much more than football. Its sad and scary in so many ways. You have an ally on the senate.
yes, please email me and the senate. http://www.uab.edu/facultysenate/roster"


Encouraging to hear. I hope they listen and act.
