If its Denver, It'd be great fit and I'd be happy for them. Loyola and UIC, unlike DePaul, have on campus arenas (DePaul plays over an hour from campus in the distant suburbs), and would open the door to Chicago.

Denver and Loyola are respected academically.

Belmont might be a bit of a risk and Oral Roberts has been polarizing in the past.

I think the choice is Denver, but I'd take a look at the Chicago twins.

It's a great fit for Denver too.

MVC has more than enough teams in baseball and softball, don't they? It would save their teams money on travel if DU doesn’t add those sports.

DU does not have facilities for baseball and softball, nor does it have a space to build them.

Nor would they need those sports for the MVC. The MVC already has two members (Drake and UNI) that don't have baseball programs.

Each has issues though, Oral Roberts was recently in huge debt, Belmont has only a small history of success although very good and Denver has been D1 for 30 years and never been to the NCAA tournament. All are in nice large cities though.
Denver moved to D-I in 1997, that's 16 years

My bad, someone else mentioned that in a article.

Yep. I think Denver was D1 from 1937-1979 or so, before returning in the late 90s.
everyone almost used to be D-I until what, 73 in basketball? All D-I fb was 1-A until what 78 or something.

Summit over Valley? Wow, unless the MVC was asking Denver to add additional sports, that's a pretty bonehead move IMO. Although, hockey is their big sport and not basketball...

I bet they'd have to cut sports to add, maybe that is an issue. Maybe the Summit is going to add more of their hockey rivals, not sure what is behind them saying no.

Third hand report with no statement from Denver. Believable? Hardly. Denver has long stated a desire in WCC or MVC membership. It's only believable if the MVC has already chosen another school, like Belmont, which also denied interest.

Dakota reporters are about as gullible as they come, as they expect straight talk and don't recognize when they aren't receiving it.

He is only reporting what he was told, it isn't like he made some big story out of it. I'm guessing Denver's AD will say something tonight, a DU blogger was planning on talking to her. Of course that might not tell us much either.

Perhaps the MVC is going in a different direction and Denver knows that and this is their spin. Denver isn't exactly a great fit into the MVC.

I hope it's just posturing until there's an actual spot for an invite. Who knows. But Denver has the best potential of the rumored schools. I'd personally stay away from the Chicago schools. We already have three teams in IL. Really don't think we need a fourth.
