BYU Declined Invite to Big East
Jeremy Fowler @JFowlerCBS 2m
Updating post. Tulane/ECu additions confirmed. Invite extended to BYU but not accepted, per source with direct knowledge.

BYU is out, probably why Tulane was invited.

Great, so we replaced a BYU invite with a Tulane invite? SMH The news keeps getting more depressing.
And you guys think this commish is the answer?

Disappointed, but makes sense with everything else that is happening.
For me personally, I am much more likely to travel to NC or New Orleans than Provo, so I'm ok with it.

He can't force a team to join a conf..BYU as been "iffy" for months. The best he can do is extend an offer as BYU rejected it. All he can do is move on.

So it's exactly what it looks like, then. We're going to expand west but it's harder than adding these schools, so these schools go first while we're continuing to try to expand.

I'd like to see the BE permanently drop the BYU flirtations at this point, then. Ditto for AFA.
I guess they've done that with these moves today. But I think a different western partner is needed still at least. Fresno, UNLV, whatever.

If they dare to go west of Texas anytime soon, given the latest "strategy", it'll be UNLV or New Mexico. Football only, of course!

I think it's time for the west to do whats best for them. With no BCS anymore it would make sense to stay more local and go for the non aq bcs bowl spot. Get the basketball team back in a decent conf.

... and make significantly less money. Good job, you win at college sports!
I still remain convinced Fresno is on the way, at minimum.

He better do something quick, this news is not going over well in Idaho.
I bet if the BE loses one more team BSU and SDSU are out.

Agree Boise Fan, who knows If these teams will actually even be interested at this point, but Fresno will defiantly be placed behind UNLV in the "Market Wars".

Salt Lake City/Provo, blows NO & NC out of the water, IMO, as a travel destination.

That and/or a messy brand new ESPN contract to try to get out of. I'll bet that ESPN did them little favors to try to get out of it assuming BYU asked around.
