RE: OT: Maryland, Rutgers to Big Ten?
This is just laughable. The Big Ten is in shambles and seems to be going downhill. A move like this would only make that fall downhill faster. Maryland is terrible in football, only decent in basketball. Rutgers got blown away by Kent in football. They haven't had a winning season in basketball since the 2005-2006 season.

It's not like Maryland's fan support will boost the conference at all...

They really can't be THAT desperate for the eastern TV market. Virginia would at least have the academics. Why not just ask Oregon and get the western market?

Stupid this is.

We should just get rid of all conferences, then have a school yard pick to reset all the conferences.

No matter how ridiculous it sounds, no matter how little they have in common with Big Tens schools, no matter what negative impacts it may have on college football in general----no matter what the arguments against this move may be--IF it will get the conference a bigger TV audience and hence a bigger TV contract = bigger $$$$ they will go after it without any thought to the long term effects-------They are eventually going to kill the golden goose, but before they do they will make sure to get theirs up front----kind of like the US Congress--it all about short term interest and let the devil take tomorrow.

ESPN is reporting that Maryland has accepted an invitation to to join the big 10 or whatever it is, and Rutgers will accept on Tuesday.

How is the Big Ten in Shambles???? Because they are having one bad year in football???? Or because ESPN doesn't blow them as much as the SEC?? Remember the SEC used to be a terrible football conference for a long time.

Refresh my fading memory---exactly when was that "long time" that the SEC was a terrible football conference? I don't ever recall them being terrible for any extended period and I don't really care much for the conference, so I would hoped to have enjoyed any bad stretches that they had.

Well their first national champion wasn't until 1934 so certainly before that they sucked. Or he could be referring to the 80s when they only had 3 national champions. Or maybe it's in one of those alternate extreme Marvel worlds where Wolverine is a manicurist.
