Exclamation ODU FCS->FBS Transition Information
Sticky this so people don't have to keep asking? And please respond with any additional info to include, but no need for another lengthy discussion about things. Just for quick info for people looking.

Transition Timeline

2012 - Now. You're look at now, sir. Everything that happens now, is happening now. We're at now now.
Classification: FCS still
Eligibility: For FCS national Championship but not the CAA Conference. We have to get an at large bid.

2013 - Transition Year 1
Classification: FCS
Eligibility: Nothing
Scheduling: For opposing teams we still count as a FCS team with more scholarships.

2014 - Transition Year 2
Classification: FBS
Eligible for CUSA Championship
Eligibility: Per NCAA rules we are not able to contend for a bowl bid.*
Scheduling: Playing full C-USA schedule. We count as FBS for opposing teams.

*Bylaw changes say we could be eligible for a bowl as an at large if there are no other teams fitting minimum criteria and we meet requirements. Slim, but still a chance.

2015 - Game on.

edit: or fix it if I goofed.

RE: ODU FCS->FBS Transition Information
Didn't the NCAA change their bowl criteria to allow startups, so we have the possibility during our 2014 transition year?

Yes, as slim as it may be.

If the number of full FBS teams with any 6 wins is less than the number of teams needed to fill bowl slots, then a transition team can be eligible.

RE: ODU FCS->FBS Transition Information
we actually will be bowl eligible if we win enough games and are chosen as an at-large if a certain bowl game cannot find a suitable team from a conference that it is affiliated with. as I understand it we will NOT be eligible for CUSA bowl tie-ins. If this is incorrect I appologize, but I do think this is right at least for the most part.

You are correct, however it is a very slim possibility.

Just read this article. You wonder if Heinecke could have the "Flutie effect" on Old Dominion........? They are very similar in certain ways.

What does UMASS expect? Their damn stadium is 100 miles away from campus. It would be like us needing to drive to Richmond every Saturday for a home game.

I compared our 2013 Schedule with Appst 2013 and greater GS 2013, and was surprised at our five games against FBS, and their combined 2 games I believe. A little inequity in the transition process. Maybe greater GS had 1 more that I missed, but still we had more "transitional" games.

They got their invites a year later and didn't delay it at all. Had we done the same thing, we wouldn't have had many FBS games (if any) and would've played the CAA schedule during our FCS transition year.

I forgot they both got a later call to dance, and I know the OOC schedule is hard to fill when all FBS schools schedule a couple years in advance. It must be the AGE thing with me today! But I was curious as to why we did 5 to their combined 2! Time to go forget something else my wife asked me!
Thank you Drunkard!

Age has nothing to do with it. I forget stuff my wife asks me to do almost daily. 04-cheers
