The same thing is true with the University of Texas. You don't see students wearing other team’s college gear on campus at games etc. If you are a Longhorn, then loyalty is demanded.

If NIU wants to be a big time school it needs that big time swagger. If it can't even demand loyalty from its alumni than it does not deserve it.

To quote you "anyone wearing, buying any other schools merchandise a piece of cra%? Please." In south Bend and in Austin they would definitely think you are. NIU needs that attitude.

Nice examples you used. ND and Texas, not like they are 2 of the top 10, if not 5 storied programs in the country. Give me a break.

And Big Ten? Please. OSU and Michigan, sure. And yes, their school is the primary clothes they wear anywhere. But to say they wear no others,non-rivals period, non-gameday, you are absolutely absurb. Seriously. Not every school is ND and Texas my friend. Far from it.

And this may be "critical" to you, MD and some others, but NIU is NOT Texas or ND. Either is any other MAC, WAC, MWC,,,even some BIG TEN and all but about a couple dozen other schools on the national scene.

BTW, I don't think Boise St. complains this much. Even with their success I think I have seen about 6 hats or shirts anywhere west of the Mississippi in 10 years, before that not one!

And ironically, you chose the 2 of the most polarizing schools whose grads I know are the most pompus, who have some of the richest alumni associations and donations, who ALSO have 2 of the biggest followings for non-grads and are 2 of the most hated! ND is probably #1!

So why even trash NIU randy? Why even put NIU down to boost ND and Texas, why is that necessary? And besides who really cares about Notre Dame football anymore, that program is a loser now and a joke.

OK, so I am putting down NIU. First of all, a guy, NOT EVEN ME, who AGREES with you says Texas and ND are what NIU should aim for in a sense. I didn't say we shoudl demand our fans to be like ND and Texas and Big Ten. I say they are storied programs, huge followings, have tons of money. Are those not FACTS?One has their own station, another their own contract w/ a network! Once again, you have zero idea of reality and logic. Furthermore, this comes from a guy who loathes Big Ten, larger schools, yet somehow can't come to the reality of how large their fan bases are, where they stand in the game and at the same time says "i won't follow NIU at lower level" and lives in fear of NIU dropping a level everyday! I have no idea how I am anti-NIU, and you have no idea about what you, AGAIN, are upset about!

Go find another boogie man to be afraid of. Problem is, you will never find a REAL oen since it is all in your head! Since you ahve no idea what you want, just go to the game or follow it on the TV or radio and freaking enjoy it andtake it, it's fans (or the facke fans I guess) for what it is, not what it isn't and you fear. And it may be hard to comprehend, but there are a few billion in the world, few hundred million in the US, millions in Chicago and tens of thousands of alumni who DON'T follow NIU football, and those who do, 99.9999% aren't on this bolg.

WEll the fact you say NIU fans shouldnt care about their athletics as much as Texas or Notre Dame is very telling.

I just cannot tell you how much that NS mentality bugs the hell out of me. We are small , do not pay attention to us, put all your fan passion into the bigger schools. I mean this very seriously, do you work at the Northern Star?

How about this: We'll kill this thread when Barksdale returns to the Huskies.

It would be easier to kill.....er, remove the clueless participant who doesn't know what he's talking about.

Seriously. Without MaddDawg starting his mindless nonsense, this thread is civil and productive.

RE: Alabama
I have been following this board as a guest but I joined so I can comment on this. Kevin S has a very valid point. NIU should demand loyalty from its alumni. I know an NIU alum who always wears Iowa shirts, hats etc. He is always talking up the Hawkeyes and has been a big Iowa fan for years. We are playing them this year and have a chance to defeat them. No NIU alum should be doing that. I haven’t seen him in a while but I hope that he will be rooting for the Huskies. I do not care if he always wanted to go there and was not able to but If you went to NIU you should root for NIU. I hope I see him to ask him if he is rooting for the Huskies.

I will be rooting for the Huskies.
