Wait. I thought they painted the structural steel last year? Am I wrong?

Well, they needed to do it with Kansas coming in. We have to have HS looking in tip-top shape.

That is what I thought at first but then I read the second link and figured it out. Last year they just painted the main vertical columns. The exposed support beams above the outer zig zag walk way still need of painting along with the railings themselves.

Wirtz Hall - New Windows and Doors May 14 July 2
Outdoor Recreation Complex June 22 December 23

ANybody know what Wirtz will be now that they will get it in shape again? The Outdoor rec space will really improve West campus area between Convo and dorms.

One idea I have always had would be to cut off Normal rd like they did with Carrol ave. I think that would give the central campus a better feel without that road cutting through it. Anybody else ever think this would be a good idea.

Agreed, that would really help.

With the new dorms coming in, I think they should tear down Douglas Hall and extend Lucinda all the way past the Convo. It would give us a nice major artery through all of campus...

I get what you are saying but they are adding the new dorm and Gilbert so that they can support the 2020 plan of going to 30k students.

We don't have money to build what we need let alone demoing useful (but ugly) buildings that we already have.

Hey!!! I had some GREAT times at Douglas! I think my mark may still be there. (Some things are hard to clean.)

RE: 2012 Summer projects on HS & campus
My wish list (will never happen):

1. Get rid of Chick Evans and those eyesore parking lots around it. Build new dorms and/or classroom buildings there to bring the campus over to Annie Glidden and connect it with the existing dorms. Leave green space down the middle so you have a quad extending from Annie Glidden through the King plaza.

2. Close Normal Road to through traffic.

3. This is radical, but get rid of Swen Parson to incorporate the East Lagoon with the rest of campus. A new law school building could be put in the Chick Evans area.
