Exactly. People are falling into a classic media-driven trap and focusing on the brand names without looking at the big picture. Boise >> WVU, and a mound of warm turds >>>>>>> Pitt/Cuse. I'm excited to see what Memphis and Temple hoops can do to boon up the hoops, because to be honest, I was much more worried about the dissipation of quality there than I was about the football, which, frankly, was never great to begin with even before all this mess.
I also don't understand the alleged attraction to Louisville. Great facilities? Yes. Large market? No. Successful programs? No, not really. Their football stinks (they live on the "next year!" mantra) and their basketball always disappoints in March. Large fanbase? By BE standards, yes; by Big XII standards, no. Do they make it rain with $$$? Again, by BE standards, absolutely; by Big XII standards, hell no.

I'm done worrying about the conference crap. I'm a Bearcat fan and football season ticket holder, and will remain one regardless of conference. The Big East, right now, is fine...not ideal, in any sense, but not any more or less competitive than it has been since UC joined.
I agree. I can't see it happening. If the Big 10 expands, they will want to get a Notre Dame and while the NYC market would be nice, there are probably already plenty of fans from current Big 10 schools in the area and Rutgers just has not done enough or have the fan base to really make it worthwhile to slice up the pie anymore.
If NYC does not have the Big 10 network (I don't know if they do or not), adding Rutgers likely is not enough to force it to happen. Rutgers keeps dreaming of that, but it really does not make much sense. They have no real football tradition and it seems most New Yorkers could care less about college football, but especially Rutgers. Just don't get it,
I would think it more likely to see the big ten try to poach Syracuse out of the ACC rather than go after Rutgers if they want to expand into the NY market.

They are the top generating college basketball program. So that would be "making it rain" by NCAA Division I standards....
Louisville, $40.9 million
Duke, $28.9 million
Arizona, $21.2 million
North Carolina, $19.7 million
Syracuse, $19 million
Kentucky, $18.6 million
Indiana, $17.8 million
Ohio State, $17 million
Michigan State, $16.5 million
Texas, $16.4 million
Wisconsin, $16.4 million
Marquette, $15.6 million
Illinois, $15.4 million
Arkansas, $14.6 million
Tennessee, $13.8 million
Minnesota, $13.7 million
Pittsburgh, $13.6 million

Louisville good fan support, great basketball facility, solid football standium, average market, good football and basketball product. They also bring in a ton of money.
Temple should have been added to the Big East years ago. I still believe that the western football only schools will leave down the line and the Big East will become an Eastern-Midwestern Metro conference.

I thought basketball didn't matter in all of this.

Basketball only matters when someone needs to prove their point....UC is way better off then they were before the Big East...better basketball conference....better football cobference with or w/o L'ville...and on the verge of signing a huge contract with NBC/Comcast that they never would even sniffed at in Conference USA...

Does the mound of warm turds automatically come with WVU or are they also a stand along option?

RE: Temple coming to Big East?
Temple brings Top 25 basketball with strong tradition. Owl football teams the past two years were better than any they fielded during their previous dismal run in the conference. Of the available programs, they're a good bet in a top five market. I'm sure it's a sad day on Victory Parkway too. The folks at X believe they're an academic and athletic peer of Notre Dame, Georgetown, 'Nova and Marquette. A double whammy as the best team leaves the hapless A-10 and reality hits for X--they will not be invited to the big boy table once again.

The Owl have yet to beat a MAC team with a winning record after 5 years in the Conference. 0-5 the past 2 seasons. The MAC East has been called the worst division in FBS FB.
