If the conference is going to play 9 conference games in the future, I say we go to 14 football teams. Insulate ourselves against losing anyone down the road, creat more bowl eligible teams and play a conference championship game at the stadium of the highest seed.

14 teams means 6 division games and 3 from the other division each year. We add at least one of UTSA and Texas St., Tech and one or two of GSU and App. St. and rock on. I know Malzahn wants to move to playing one "money" game a year. You get your nine conference games, a home and home with a midmajor, an FCS opponent and one money game. Guaranteed 6 home games per year and the road trips are easy.

I think it'll be eight games in the forseeable future. 12 seems to be the number Benson is looking at and that would indicate five division games and three crossovers per year. Some conference teams need the flexibility of adding money games to balance the budget.

This has been going on since 1932. You cant build a league fearing your invitee will leave. Best Athlete Available Today.

You're looking at different eras. In today's modern college athletic world movement is something that happens often and must be accounted for. You can't just put your fingers in your ears and go "Lalalala" and hope everything works out.
When the very foreseeable result of inviting Ga State is that they end up in a higher conference, the SBC would have taken a school that is not a rival for resources and made them a very formidable one. No one with any sense makes that move.

But in the past it was much less a predictable part of the landscape than it is now.

So IF Appy gets invited who do we call ASU without one or the other getting thier panties in a wad?

I'm gonna pre-emptive stirke on this and refer to the each as stAte and Appy from now on. My ulcer cant handle any more name threads.

There are 4 guys from our 2007 team in the NFL, and two defensive ends from our 2005 team. There are many FBS teams that dont produce that kind of talent. With a full scholarship allotment, App football would only improve. We'd already be top two in attendence, and Appalachian State name is well known in college football. It all depends on which team you pick.

You are FCS. FBS talent gets in trouble or just doesnt like the institution they are currently enrolled in. Transfer to a FBS school? You have to sit out a year. So what do you do? You transfer to a FCS school and play immediately. Which school do you want to go to? Probably the best (national perception wise) football program in FCS- App St.

Don't get me wrong- Troy has gotten plenty of Big 6 transfers... but it is a lot harder sell because you have to sit out a year.

It is like saying UNA/Jacksonville St. put out big time athletes. They do, but it is because they were top recruits coming out of highschool and got in trouble and wanted to play immediately.

Once you begin to transition to FBS those transfers will dry up very quickly. Ask USA...

Now I am all for App St... but lets look at it realistically. Once your turn FBS you are going to have to recruit straight up against other FBS programs in your region.

I might be way off on my assessment of all the guys you have in the NFL/going to the NFL... how many of them were at App St from signing day as a senior in highschool?

Every single NFL player we have came directly from high school to App.
We rarely get transfers, unlike Deleware, who consistantly shops for QB transfers, and when we do, they dont tend to be major contributors. We had one of the top five DEs out of high school transfer in from LSU, and he only lasted a season, and he contributed, but I dont think he ever started. Jerry Moore does not take a player from ANY school, if their own school would not take them back.

More than 10 of this years 20 or so recruits had FBS offers. One of our RBs, had offers from UNC and Duke, a CB recruit had offers from Wake Forest, and Buffalo among others, a LB decommitted from Cincinatti for us, and an OL decommitted from FIU for us, thats just off the top of my head.

Frankly, I thought the same thing as TrojanNation, so I went to look up which BCS schools the guys being drafted went to, and kept being surprised each time that none of them were transfers and all were ASU recruits, which makes me think that much more of your program. For me, if any team is added in the east, and I include UAB in this, I'd like for it to be ASU. People talk about the market size, but if you play in an empty stadium in a large market, it's just not worth it. I've known your attendance is fantastic and I'd love to play a team where there are fans that give a crap about the game than seeing my team play in an empty stadium.

Thanks, everybody loves to hear good things about their team. We've got alot of pride in our team, just like you all, Im sure. Our coach is a legend here, and has done alot for us. He's the kind of man you'd want your kids to play for. And Boone itself, well, there is a reason they call it God's country.

Im slowly picking up on your conference and members too, so I appreciate the openness and patience you guys have. Its nice to see a conference board where opinions are not already formed and not subject to change.

If Karl is worth the money he's being paid he doesn't need me to tell him something so obvious.
I hardly think a choice of meeting place means much in terms of invitations. The SEC and the SBC both meet annually near my hometown in Destin, FL but I doubt that signals an offer is forthcomng for Northwest Florida State College (formerly Okaloosa-Walton Junior College to us Panhandle veterans).

No.

I'm actually getting tired of seeing those games on Troy's schedule I like this year have Miss St at home, Navy at home, UAB on the road, and UT on the road. If Troy get's it's receiver situation handled we should beat UAB and play close games with the rest of them.

I really wonder what could have been if we scheduled like other teams some times. I remember in 2007 we played Tim Tebowada, Oklahoma St, Georgia, and Arkansas. We beat Oklahoma St and only had one loss in conference play finishing 8-4 and guess what that got us? No Bowl game.

If we would have played UAB, Alabama State, Oklahoma State, and a MAC team that year we probably would have been 11-1 and been ranked.
