Donation Amounts
A survey was sent out to all the universities and colleges in the country, asking for the amount of donations they received in 2011.

I find it a good way to see how well universities are supported by their alumni and communities, beyond athletics.

Our athletics fundraising (non-capital) raised 1.4mil. The campaign for the IPF raised 8.2 mil in the last 3.5 months for 2010. It does not seem like the NIU Foundation announced how much they raised this past year...possibly because it was not much.

That number for UB seems a bit low, Ill have to dig around but I suspect some of the numbers are off..

For instance:

September 21, 2011 -- UB Received 40 million for their medical corridor form one alumni (The good doctor left UB medical school $40 million, a historic donation that will be announced during a news conference this morning. -- Buffalo News)

For some reason I am thinking the sum that UB got last is closer to 100Million

I'm not sure about those numbers but will admit that I didn't click the link to read.

Western Michigan University received an anonymous donation in 2011 of $100 million for the new Med School.

Perhaps that was not counted.

Keep in mind that the report says Fiscal year 2011, which generally runs from June 1st 2010 to May 31st 2011. That could be the reason the numbers may seem a bit off.

Great post though, and your right, it should all start with academics.
