C-USA & MWC dissolving to merge 2013: Affects new BE teams' buyouts?
http://brett-mcmurphy.blogs.cbssports.co...2/34822810
I don't KNOW anything yet, but I'm guessing the media rights buyout fee is kaput, b/c the two leagues are dissolving to void their current media contracts. Good for Memphis, since it's estimated to be (a negotiable) $6.1M.
This might also affect the conference buyout fees, but maybe that one is still enforceable? For Memphis, it's only $500K anyway, as a charter member of C-USA.
Interesting development for all the new BE teams except Navy.

i think it's a great idea, there are at least 6 solid fb teams there, good for them.

Yeah, that too. McMurphy mentioned they might wind up with 18 to 24 teams. Right now they have 16 between the two leagues, so are they planning to add as many as 8 more? That would start to affect the other FBS conferences.
Guess realignment's not exactly done yet, lol.

It's 4,864 miles between ECU and Hawaii, further than it is between ECU and London, England. LOL!

i would be shocked if it gets bigger than 18 teams...(with 1 or 2 being football only)

I believe they have caught onto what the BE is up too and are forming a western contingent of the same.

They could always add a few miles to it ( to put it mildly), and play the game in Hong Kong, to try to corner the Chinese market...

I think we're landing in a better situation, but I don't know that "The Alliance" or "Mount America" necessarily "has fail written all over it."
The larger conference...if it can hold...will be able to sustain hits in membership or an underperforming member (keep those mirrors away, damn you!) better than the two separate conference would. It will provide a measure of stability neither conference enjoys right now.

This new merged conference is going to look an awful lot like the New Big East.

Concerning football, there's a lot smaller gap between the NBE and this new merged conference - in fan support and media appeal - than between the NBE and the SEC.
And it seems like they are copping our strategy of being the one "coast to coast" league. It may work, and it may hurt our ability to uniquely market ourselves that way to the media companies. I see this merged league as a threat.

There's a smaller gap between the NBE and this new merged conference - in both fan support metrics and on-field performance - than between the NBE and the SEC.
Okay, prove that statement.

There's a smaller gap between the NBE and this conference than between the NFL and the NBE as well, which seems just as relevant.
Mount USA will be a threat to our weeknight time slots, that's about it. Hopefully NBC/Comcast make that moot.

That Merged conference has way less Media appeal.. Don't even try to compare the two and fan support??? Maybe ECU and AFA can compare but other then that who?

Except that the SEC is a fellow AQ league, and the NFL is not?

Okay, prove that statement.
I don't think it, or the obverse, can be proven. But just look at the programs. Heck, half of our programs were in the MWC or C-USA just a few months ago. We're not talking about comparing the NBE with a conference with Penn State, Texas, Notre Dame, etc... the programs in both conferences are basically interchangeable.
