That's my guess.

MUsince96 -- Is this where you see Temple?

Honestly I don't know Owl. I don't see you all joining for all sports unless we landed a TV deal that Temple just couldn't turn down moneywise. And I don't know if The Alliance would want Temple for football only, unless it was to balance the way Hawaii is football only in the West.

I do know that our AD indicated this afternoon at a luncheon the merger is on.

Add Temple for all sports. Add Umass for all sports. Bring in one quality basketball school from the A10 or CAA to offset Hawaii's football only membership. Done. Temple & Umass can't turn that down.

Temple and UMass would be nuts to join all sports. Travel is going to be insane on the east side compared to what they are accustomed to.

One thing about the western schools, travel is going to be long anyway you cut it so you may as well be in a far flung league. In the east at least you have the option of close knit geography if you can take it.

24 teams? LOL. They're so into absolutely having to have some kind of TV deal that they'll get their $18 million per year deal for the entire conference, given that there's about 6 teams that have positive television value in the group, (which means 75% of the games have zero or negative value to whoever signs the deal) and then ask where the money is when everyone take home their half a million after the conference skims off the top.

I don't see why that would be attractive to UMass (especially) but to Temple either. Their other sports aren't choosing between the MAC or the alliance - they're in the A-10, which is far superior to the alliance in BB.

Either might be tempted to join for FB-only (although they're not going to make a lot of FB money in either conference), but they would be absolutely insane to jump for all-sports to the alliance. There aren't any teams of the calibre of Xavier, Dayton, St.Louis, Charlotte etc in the alliance's east division. If you're not playing cross-divisional games with the west division (which is my understanding), there really isn't anything there to attract the likes of the UMass or Temple BB programs.
