No big surprise but Dan Gibbs (OT) will be a preferred walk-on at UofM.

Believed all along he was going to be a UofM walk-on or go Ivy League.

Translation - Gibbs will be the UM fan with the best seat in the house.

I was still thinking that somehow we would steal this kid and he would rather come here and play and not sit on the sideline for Michigan..

Again everyone, I am new to EMU but is this the normal for us? A kid would rather walk-on and take a chance of not playing football, rather then coming to a college (EMU) that will pay for your college education and would allow you a chance to play.

WTF.. Call me dumb!!!!!

I think kids like Gibbs should take off their 'Blue Shades" and be a lot more open minded.

What some of these kids, including the kid Glasglow from last year should realize, is that within the MAC there are some schools with excellent academics and NATIONAL reputations.

Miami has tremendous academics and a very beautiful campus, UB has great academics. UMass too. And others.

(It's been a while since I checked but some MAC schools are rated higher than some Big Ten schools. EDIT: MIA and UMass are both top 100 schools in the U.S. News and World Report rankings for '12. UB and Ohio are just outside the top 100. Miami's campus is nicer then UofM's. Four MAC schools: Mia, UB, UMass and Ohio are ranked higher than LSU. ).

I just don't think 17 year olds have a true national vision.

Curious if they are going 100K in debt to walk-on at UofM vs. a Miami?

They are still rating schools by what they see on Saturdays or January 1 and not the schools as they really are.

Getting back to EMU, I hope both Bowen and Hook qualify and sign.

They would be two more solid additions to the program.

Recruiting doesn't end on February 1.

People, here is what I heard on the Gibbs kid. His parents both went to U of M and he is interested in an educational field that isn't offered by any MAC programs, I think we need to lay off of the kid a little. Remember if he doesn't want to be here, then the kid wouldn't last here, and that is not the type of kid English and company want to bring in here.

Dear Friends,
We also need to realize where he comes from....Birmingham. I don't think there will be pain and suffering on the financial end in this case. I agree with Ninkonpoopersnap, if he doesn't want to be at Eastern, so be it. Just like the running back from Ann Arbor, once I found out his mother was the cheerleading coach at U-M, we had no chance of landing him as a recruit.

This may be the case with this young man (Gibb) but he is not the norm. To the point Emusteve was saying some kids are looking at being on a team that play football on Saturday rather then the education.. I am just saying there are other schools out there he could attended that had a better education then Michigan. I really wish him luck with where he is headed..

Sorry, I didn't mean to slam the kid or sound as if I was.

I was actually trying to make a general point which goes something like this:

There are some (a number) MAC schools which have better academic reputations then some (many) BCS conference schools.

Don't sell a top MAC school short.
